You can use your voice to control Hook devices using Google Home.

What you need to get started

  1. Set up your Google Home.
  2. Make sure your phone or tablet is connected to the Internet.
  3. Make sure you’re signed into the same Google Account that you linked to Google Home

Note: Some devices supported in one country may not be supported in another. If you have questions, contact us before you purchase Hook or Google Home


Step 1: Add devices on the Hook app

If you haven’t already, set up your devices by following the steps provided in the Hook App.


Step 2: Connect Hook devices to Google Home 

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. In the top left corner of the Home screen, tap Menu .
  3. Verify that the Google Account that is listed is the one linked to Google Home.  To switch accounts, click the triangle to the right of the account name.
  4. Tap More settingsand then  Home control.
  5. In the "DEVICES" tab, at the bottom right tap Add   .
  6. Tap the Hook Smart Home service
  7. When prompted log in with the email address and password associated with your Hook account, tap Done.
  8. Note: There isn't a limit to the number of devices you can link to Google Home.


Step 3: Set nicknames for Hook devices

  1. Within the DEVICES tab, you will see the Hook devices connected to your Google Home.
  2. Tap the plugs or switch you want to set a nickname for.
  3. Tap Set a nickname.
  4. Type a nickname. Tap OK and then Device details.
  5. You’ll see your plug or switch with its new nickname. 
  6. Note: Nicknames are alternate ways to reference Hook devices in the Google Home app. Nicknames you've assigned to devices in the Google Home app are not reflected in the Hook app.



Step 4: Hook devices to rooms


Rooms allow a group of Hook devices to be controlled (On or Off) at once. The concept it same as Groups in the Hook App, but since groups are not exposed to Google Home yet, you will need to create rooms in the Google Home to control these devices using a single voice command.

                

Add a room 

Within the ROOMS tab, you will see plugs and switches connected to Google Home.

Tap the + sign  in the bottom right corner. 

To choose a room, tap the radio button to the left of the room name. Tap Next. 

To add a room that’s not listed, scroll down and tap + CUSTOM ROOM.

Type a room name. Tap OK.  

You’ll see a list of linked plugs and switches. To add a plug or switch to this room check the box next to the plug or switch name. Tap Done. 

Note: Each plug or switch can only be added to one room. It can't be assigned to multiple rooms.


Add Hook devices into a room 


Within the ROOMS tab, you will see a list of rooms and their assigned plugs and switches.

Tap room you want to adjust.

You’ll see a list of plugs and switches already in that room plus more devices under 'Add devices.

Under 'Add devices,' tap the checkbox to the left of the plugs and switches you’d like to move into that room, or tap Select all to move all plugs and switches into that room. 

Tap Done. 

You’ll now see the updated list of plugs and switches in that room. 

Note: Each Hook devices can only be added to one room. It can't be assigned to multiple rooms.



Change a device's room 


Within the ROOMS tab, you will see a list of rooms and their assigned plugs and switches.

Tap the room name you’d like to adjust. 

Choose the plug or switch you’d like to move. Tap Move. 

Tap the radio button next to the room you’d like to move it to. 

To add a room that’s not listed, scroll down and tap + CUSTOM ROOM.

Type a room name. Tap OK.  

Tap Done. 

You’ll see the plug or switch is no longer listed in the room you moved it from. 


Rename a room 


Within the ROOMS tab, you will see a list of rooms and their assigned devices.

Tap the room name you’d like to adjust. 

Tap the room name. 

Type a new room name. Tap OK and then Done. 

You’ll see the plugs and switches listed under the new room name. 


Delete a room 


Note: A room has to be empty before deleting the room. See the above steps to move plugs and switches out of a room.

Within the ROOMS tab, you will see a list of rooms and their assigned plugs and switches.

Tap the room you’d like to delete.  

Tap the trash can at the top of the screen. 

Tap Ok to confirm you want to delete the room. 



Step 5. Use your voice to control plugs & switches


Here are some ways to talk with your Google Assistant on Google Home when controlling plugs or switches.
 

Say "Ok, Google" or "Hey, Google" on your Google Home or Google Assistant on your Phone, followed by "Turn ON/OFF <Device name>"


Step 6: Unlink Hook service


  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. In the top left corner of the Home screen, tap Menu .
  3. Verify that the Google Account that is listed is the one linked to Google Home.  To switch accounts, click the triangle to the right of the account name.
  4. Tap More settingsand then  Home control.
  5. In the "DEVICES" tab, at the bottom right tap Add   .
  6. Long Tap the Hook Smart Home service  to unlink


Troubleshooting

If your Google Assistant is you having trouble controlling your plugs and switches, choose the scenario below that matches your current naming scheme and try renaming your device in the Google Home app.  

  1. If your device name includes a room name (i.e. Kitchen plug), try removing the room name from the device by renaming the device.
  2. If your device name includes numbers or special characters (i.e. The #1 Plugs), try renaming the device and remove numbers and special characters.
  3. If you have two devices with the same name (i.e. Table light up and Table light down), try renaming one of the devices.
